Brazilian Portuguese Texts for Beginners
When you’re just starting out learning Portuguese, reading may be unfeasible. There are just too many words, and they start to scramble on the page.
Many people conclude that it is counterproductive to read while you’re just starting. I don’t agree with this belief. And here’s what I mean.
There are only so many grammatical items that need to be studied. After a couple of weeks, you may have learned everything you need about grammar. Thus, grammar lessons may become useless.
But vocabulary… It is ever-changing and never-ending. If you want to understand the language well and speak it correctly and accurately, vocabulary will be your biggest hurdle.
And it stands to reason that it should be tackled right at the beginning of your journey.
Yet, that’s exactly what some people don’t do. They are afraid they may become bogged down with so many new words… And structures to see… So that they try to acquire more vocabulary through conversation.
No problem with that. If you can talk every day, that’s the best thing. The next best thing is to read. And here’s why.
Not many of us have the leisure to devote one hour every day to conversations in Portuguese. Perhaps…
- You’re not in Brazil – and most learners aren’t –, and quite likely you don’t have any Brazilian friends to keep in touch with daily.
- You have 15 minutes at a time, and you have to snatch that away to review some vocabulary words or listen to a podcast episode.
But instead of looking at vocabulary lists and other unproductive materials, we should, as much as possible, interact with quality content that is both authentic and adapted to our level.
And that’s what you’re going to find here. Articles that were written with you, the beginner reader, in mind.
As much as possible, we tried to make those texts as funny, entertaining, and instructive as possible. We hope you enjoy them.
